Scrapping fuel allowance for appointees bold step by President — FOGET
President Mahama's decision to scrap fuel allowances and allocations to political appointees is not just a cost-cutting measure but a bold demonstration of leadership by example.
The President of the Foundation for Generational Thinkers (FOGET), Prosper Afetsi, noted that at a time Ghanaians are burdened by economic challenges, such an action reflects the spirit of a willing leader determined to tackle the nation’s problems head-on.
Move
The move, he told the Daily Graphic, showed that when leaders are willing, solutions begin to emerge.
Mr Afetsi said the move echoed the timeless truth: "Where there is a will, there is a way."
Ghana, he said, did lack the requisite potential in all of its sectors and that "What we need is the courage and conviction to do what is right."
"We applaud this act of responsible leadership. True transformation begins when those in authority are ready to make sacrifices, not just demand them from the people," he said.
Mr Afetsi expressed confidence that the President's decision would be the beginning of a new chapter of accountable, empathetic and purposeful governance in the country.
Cancellation
John Dramani Mahama last Tuesday directed the immediate cancellation of fuel allowance and fuel allocations for all political appointees as part of stringent measures to reduce government expenditure.
The move is aimed at cutting costs and redirecting public funds to priority areas of national development.
The Presidency indicated that leadership must lead by example in making sacrifices, especially as the government called on citizens to endure economic challenges.
A statement by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said the decision aligned with broader efforts to streamline governance and foster fiscal discipline.
