God will punish persons slandering Eku Juice - Allotey Jacobs

A former Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Kojo Allotey Jacobs says God will punish all individuals making slanderous comments about 'Eku Juice', a pineapple juice produced by the Ekumfi Juice Factory in the Central Region.

According to him, he has seen some posts on social media suggesting that the juice was unwholesome because the word 'Eku' in the Ewe language in Ghana means death.

During a radio panel discussion on Accra based Peace FM on Thursday, a visibly irritated Allotey Jacobs from the live video stream monitored by Graphic Online on Facebook said the false comments should be disregarded because they were targeted at ensuring that the Ekumfi area does not develop.

He said the factory has so far provided employment for over 400 persons in an area where the soil was only ideal for cultivating pineapple and coconut.

Mr Allotey Jacobs also suggested that the government should start serving the juice at state functions and events and impose heavy taxes on juices produced outside and imported into Ghana.

The Eku Juice is produced by the Ekumfi Juice Factory under the government's One District One Factory (1D1F) programme.

The $8 million project which officially commenced in March 2018 now has 400 workers including out-growers.

The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr Afriyie Akoto in a post on Facebook on November 16 announced that the juice was on sale.
