Kpandai rerun: Supreme Court unhappy with absence of EC representatives in court

The Supreme Court panel hearing the application seeking to quash the High Court’s judgement which ordered a re-run of the 2024 parliamentary election in Kpandai in the Northern Region has expressed displeasure about the absence of representatives from the office of the Electoral Commission in court

Lawyers for the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Mathew Nyindam, were at apex court this morning for an order for substituted service to enable them serve the originating motion and statement of case on the 2024 National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Kpandai, Daniel Nsala Wakpal.

When the case was called today, the President of the five-member panel, Justice Gabriel Pwamang asked Justin Amenuvor, why officers of the EC were absent.

“They don’t consider the actions serious enough? And they are running our election and they’ll not come to the Supreme Court,” Justice Tanko Amadu, who was also not happy about the absence of the EC said.

Later, the Supreme Court ordered the Electoral Commission to suspend all arrangements for the rerun of the parliamentary election in Kpandai pending the determination of an application challenging the High Court’s judgement that ordered the rerun.

In an order this morning, a five-member panel of the Supreme Court, which had Justice Gabriel Pwamang presiding, said this would ensure that the election did not overrun the court in determining a certiorari filed by the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Mathew Nyindam.
