Acclamation rejected

Initially, the assembly members proposed popular acclamation for the appointee, but the Electoral Commission (EC) officials present rejected the idea on the basis that it was illegal.

The assembly meeting to endorse the appointee was presided over by the assembly member for the Odumase South Electoral Area, Mr Benjamin Awuley Mensah, in the absence of a substantive presiding member.

The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Upper Manya, Mr Joseph Tetteh; the MP for the Ayawaso West Wuogon and an indigene of the area, Mr Emmanuel Kwabena Kyeremanteng Agyarko; the MP for Lower Manya Krobo, Mr Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, as well as traditional and opinion leaders and some New Patriotic Party (NPP) members.

Mr Tetteh, a teacher at the Manya Krobo Senior High School, his alma mater, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Sociology, as well as a Master of Arts degree, both from the University of Ghana. He also holds a Post Secondary Certificate from the Ada College of Education.

Gratitude

Mr Tetteh expressed profound gratitude to the President for appointing him to that high office and thanked the assembly members for the massive endorsement he received, which signified the confidence they had reposed in him.

He promised to work assiduously to change the outlook of the municipality and promised not to disappoint the people he had been tasked to serve.
