Mintah Akandoh

'My work experience is dining hall prefect'

Deputy Minister-designate for Water Resources, Works & Housing, Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has stated on his Curriculum Vitae (CV) that his work experience is serving as a dining hall prefect while at the senior secondary school.

This came to light when he appeared before Parliament’s Appointment Committee last Tuesday.

Mr Akandoh had a tough time convincing the committee on why he, among other things, presented his role as a dining hall prefect as a work experience.

Mr Akandoh also stated under the work experience category that he gained work experience as an executive of the school’s Student Representative Council (SRC).

After some members of the committee had insisted that serving as a dining hall prefect was not work experience, the Chairman of the Committee, Mr Ebo Barton Odro, who is also the First Deputy Speaker, reminded Mr Akandoh that since work experience came with remuneration and serving as a dining hall prefect did not go with remuneration, he did not see why the minister-designate included it in his CV.

“Was it because you were taking double plate during meals so you added it to the CV?” quipped a member amid laughter.

Mr Akandoh, however, explained, “Mr Chairman, work experience is not in the strict sense of being remunerated but whatever I have done before.  That is why I included that but if the committee thinks I should correct that, I will humbly do so.” His CV also included that he was a mathematics teacher.

More laughter was to follow when he was asked why he did not include walking and sleeping in his CV since they were daily activities.

Mr. Akandoh had included in his CV that he attended a seminar on Champion in London without explaining further.

Chairman of the Appointment Committee: “Somebody is talking about “Champion condoms’’.

Mr Akandoh thereafter explained, “Mr Chairman, the conference I attended was about “champion leadership’’.

Mr Akandoh, 35, is married with five children and when quizzed about the likelihood of having more children for his age, the chairman overruled that question.

Mr Akandoh is the Member of Parliament for Juaboso. He was nominated by President John Dramni Mahama to the Ministry of Natural Resources in the latest reshuffle.
