NPP needs succession plan - Odeneho Kwaku Appiah

The Afigya Kwabre South Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, has reiterated the need for the leadership of the party to consider designing a succession plan for the selection of people into leadership positions in the party.

That, according to him, would save the challenges the party encountered in electing people for various positions at the constituency, regional and national levels.

“Apart from addressing the challenges, such a succession plan would bring about discipline since no one would come from outside the party to create tension for the hard working members who are doing a lot for the growth and sustainability of the party,” Odeneho Appiah said.

He was speaking in an interview with the Daily Graphic at Kodie in the Afigya Kwabre District in the Ashanti Region in response to the seeming tension in some constituencies during the filling of nomination forms for the parliamentary primaries of the party.

Strategic plan

Odeneho Appiah stressed the need for a strategic plan to be drawn to give direction on succession which among other issues would create an opportunity for people with good leadership qualities in the party at various levels to be identified, picked and groomed for leadership positions.

Odeneho Appiah stated that such a plan, when adopted, would lead to people showing more dedication to the party.

Parliamentary agents

He also reminded members of the party to be mindful of some members of the party, who he described as “agents of parliamentary candidates”.

According to him, such agents were ready to look for new candidates each time parliamentary primaries were due after which they vanish from the party only to show their faces again once it was time for another parliamentary primaries.

Such persons, he said, posed a threat to the growth of the party.

“If care is not taken, by the time the parliamentary primaries come to an end, we would have armed our opponents in the general election with enough weapons to fight us,” Odeneho Appiah said.
