NPP votes today to elect parliamentary candidates

Delegates of the New Patriotic Party are voting today to elect parliamentary candidates in 245 constituencies as the party prepares for the 2016 general elections.

Polls open at 8am and close at 3pm for counting of ballots to follow immediately.

There will be no voting in 30 constituencies where issues inhibiting their participation in Saturday’s exercise are being adjudicated by the national appeals committee of the party.

NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong says the polls for the withheld constituencies are most likely to be held on 27th June.

And of the 245 constituencies ready to go, there will be no contest in 39 constituencies where only single candidates are contesting unopposed.

Delegates making the Electoral College are:
a) Members of the Constituency Executive Committee
b) All Electoral Area Coordinators
c) The Five (5) executives at each Polling station
d) Any Founding Member from the Constituency who is a signatory to the registration document of the Party at the Electoral Commission.
e) Five (5) members of the Council of Elders and
f) Five (5) Patrons from the Constituency.
