Mr Fiifi Mensah, a friend and former employer of Quayeson, told this website that reports of the driver‘s abduction were false.

According to him, some friends of the driver had taken him to a safe place to enable him “lie low”.

Mr Mensah said Quayeson was safe and healthy, and was taking time to think about his future.

“He has lost his job and is under a whole lot of pressure”, he said, adding that a press statement will be released this week to “clarify issues”.

Quayeson has been in the news since Friday after it emerged that he was behind a secret recording of Ms Hammah’s private conversations, which eventually led to her dismissal as Deputy Communications Minister.

He was arrested Friday in connection with the recording, but was granted bail after the police failed to determine an offence to charge him with.

The Public Relations Officer of the Greater Accra Regional Police Command, DSP Freeman Tettey, said his arrest followed Ms Hammah's complaint to the effect that he had secretly recorded her.

Quayeson also told Accra-based RadioXYZ Sunday that he had been contracted by Ms Rachael Appoh, the Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, to carry out the recording.

He claimed Ms Appoh had promised him $2,000 and a US visa in exchange for the recording.

Moments later, however, he backtracked on the allegations, saying he had been coerced by his family members to frame the Deputy Minister.
