Manager Phil Parkinson was keen to let Sunderland offer Semenyo a permanent deal but the youngster was not interested as he eyed a breakthrough with Bristol City in the second-tier.

"Unfortunately, my time with Sunderland is over. Thank you to the fans, staff and players for everything and wish you guys all the best" Semenyo posted on his official Instagram page on Wednesday.

Semenyo progressed through the Bristol City Academy system before being promoted to the first team in 2019 after a successful loan deal with Newport County. He was loaned to Sunderland early this year to help in their quest for promotion.

A natural winger, the budding talent has also been deployed as a central striker many times and has excelled due to his predatory instincts inside the penalty box.

He was born in London to Ghanaian parents and holds both English and Ghanaian passport but yet to feature for any of the countries at any level.
