Kotoko off to Algeria

A 30-man contingent of Kumasi Asante Kotoko depart Accra tomorrow for Algiers to play Moludia Club d’El Eulma of Algeria in the CAF Champion League 1/16th stage on Saturday. 

Kotoko drew a bye on two consecutive occasions, following the withdrawal of their opponents at the preliminary stages.

Stand-in coach, Michael Osei, leads the team for his first major international assignment despite his poor delivery on the local front.

Osei, since taking over from on-leave Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, is yet to win a premier league game in three outings.

Last Friday the Porcupine Warriors were hammered 3-0 in Accra by Accra Great Olympics in the Independence Cup match.

And yesterday, the defending Premier League champions failed to capitalise on their home advantage, after fighting from a goal down to hold Medeama SC to a 1-1 draw at the Baba Yara Stadium.

While Kotoko are focused on their champions League campaign, Accra Hearts of Oak will have home advantage when they play host to Senegal side, Olympique de Ngor, in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup 1/16th round.

Hearts, like Kotoko, are both in unusual positions in the domestic competition as they languish in the relegation zone. Hearts held Sekondi Hasaacas to a 1-1 draw at the Sekondi Stadium at Essipon.
