Medeama vow to beat Bejaia

Embattled Medeama Sporting Club have vowed to despatch MO Bejaia back home empty-handed in their second Group A encounter at the Sekondi Stadium at Essipon this afternoon.

The Tarkwa-based club appears to be in a hurry to obliterate their 1-3 away defeat to African Super Champions, TP Mazembe, with a good home win over the Algerians Bejaia at their favourite home base.

That explains why the club has raised money to meet the necessary CAF requirements to pave the way for the game to come off in Sekondi despite earlier fears of playing the game elsewhere.

From management through the technical team to the playing body, the chorus seems to be in unison as the Ghanaians look forward to maintain their impressive home run thus far.

Medeama returned home from their botched mission in DR Congo early last week fully confident of making amends to keep their title ambitions on track.

Just like their maiden continental campaign in 2014, the nation’s representatives have maintained a consistent home form with two-goal margin wins right from the preliminaries. And against Bejaia today, they even plan to improve upon that target to enhance their semi-final chances.

With the likely return of their trusted libero, Daniel Amoah, who missed the previous game because of  accumulated yellow cards, Medeama’s defensive problems are expected to be solved to enable the solid midfield trio of Malik Akowuah, Kwasi Donsu and Kwame Boahene to push Abass Iddrisu and Bismark Oppong to cause the necessary havoc.

Obviously, MO Bejaia will not come cheap following their 1-0 win over Young Africans of Tanzania in their opening game, coupled with the fact that the same Algerian side eliminated Ghanaian champions Ashantigold from the Champions League. But with determination and the right approach, Medeama can make good their promise to keep their impressive home record intact.

Perhaps, their 0-1 away loss to struggling New Edubiase last Sunday was a blessing in disguise to help them play above themselves and also overcome the naivety that denied them a point against TP Mazembe.

The onus, therefore, lies on Coach Prince Owusu and his technical director, Evans Adotey, to make amends as anything short of victory could dim Medeama’s title chances.
