Rajavac tips Ghana to progress from World Cup group

Former Ghana coach, Milovan Rajevac, is confident the Black Stars will make it past the group stage at the 2014 World Cup, despite being drawn against Germany, Portugal and the USA for the third time running since 2006.

Ghana, determined to make a stronger impact at its third successive FIFA  World Cup finals in Brazil, must first manage to get past a tough Group G, where they will be facing a strong European threat.

According to football website ghanasoccernet.com, Serbian Rajevac, who could be returning to the Black Stars team as a technical advisor, believes Ghana has a much better all-round team that is capable of making out of the tough group.

“Ghana were able to beat USA in South Africa and played perhaps their best World Cup game against Germany, despite losing by a goal to nil,” Rajevac said.

“They find themselves in a very tough group, but I think they will make it into the next stage of the competition.”

The 60-year-old, who led Ghana to an impressive quarter final finish at the last World Cup in South Africa, believes the Stars team is strong enough to deal with huge threat of Portugal’s game-changer Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Ghana is a better team than Portugal, but they have a big man in Christiano Ronaldo. The Ghana team plays with much cohesion.”

The former coach of Qatar was in the stands last Wednesday when Ghana lost 1-0 to Montenegro in an international friendly played in Podgorica.
