We are sorry - Opoku Nti apologises

Supporters of Kumasi Asante Kotoko have been urged not to despair but to continue to throw their weight behind the club as they pick up the pieces after the unexpected exit from the CAF African Clubs Championship.

The acting General Manager of Kotoko, Mr Samuel Opoku Nti, in a telephone interview with the Graphic Sports yesterday, also rendered an unqualified apology to all Kotoko faithful while he promised that the club would work assiduously to retain the Premier League and win the FA Cup.

“I am calling on all supporters and lovers of Kumasi Asante Kotoko to forgive us, the board, management and the players and support us in prayer. On behalf of the board and management I say sorry to all our disappointed supporters across the globe”, Opoku Nti said soberly.

He said the exit of the team had been a learning process for him as general manager of the club, explaining that it was always better to tell it as it is, even though it might be painful, than to lie to the fans.

The former Kotoko prodigy said unlike others, he did not make promises because he did not want to disappoint.

“Only God can promise and since I am not the one on the field, I cannot promise everything like the manner in which all sorts of people were promising that Kotoko would win the African Clubs Championship.

‘’ We must know that promises could fail,” Opoku Nti added and appealed to Kotoko supporters to put the past behind them.

Responding to a question on the sudden and suprise transfer of striker Yahaya Mohammed to Ittihad Tripoli of Libya, Opoku Nti, said the player failed to inform the team.

According to him Yahaya sneaked away but  assured that the leadership of the club would collectively look into the issue in tandem with the rules governing player transfers in the country.
