West Ham can cope with Dede Ayew’s injury — Bilic

West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic has indicated the club will make no further additions during the summer transfer window, claiming his current squad can deal with the injuries to new signings Andre Ayew and Sofiane Feghouli.

Hammers’ record signing Ayew lasted just 35 minutes of the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea before going off with a thigh problem, while Sofiane Feghouli missed the game with an undisclosed injury suffered in a friendly against Juventus.

The east London club looked set to kick-off their domestic campaign with a credible point at Stamford Bridge, after James Collins’ strike had cancelled out Eden Hazard’s  penalty.

After Diego Costa escaped being sent off for a high tackle on Adrian, the Spaniard went on to net the winner in the 89th minute as Bilic’s side were condemned to a disappointing defeat.

Ayew, 26, was making his first competitive start for West Ham since joining from Swansea this summer, but limped off just after half an hour of action at Stamford Bridge.

The Ghana international chased down Eden Hazard, but pulled up injured as the Belgian winger sent a shot narrowly wide of Adrian’s goal.

Ayew received treatment on the pitch before limping off with what looked like a thigh or groin injury, and was replaced by former Chelsea youngster Gokhan Tore on the 34th minute.

Injury to Ayew, on his West Ham debut, accentuated the frustration of the defeat for Bilic.

Though unsure over the length of the Ghanaian’s absence, the manager will not look to the transfer window to add cover.

The Croat is content with his current squad, which must fight on four fronts this term with the club currently in the process of qualifying for the group stage of the Europa League.

“I don't think so, I think we have enough,” Bilic told Sky Sports upon being asked about future signings. “We don’t not have enough, because we have a few players out, even before him Ayew,  players like Aaron Cresswell and Manuel Lanzini were out. We are not going to buy players just because of small injuries for our players.”

Bilic remains optmistic  as he awaits the outcome of Ayew’s scan, after being assured that it may not be anything serious.
