National Women’s League (NWL) newcomers, Kumasi Sports Academy Ladies, could cause the biggest upset of the season if they beat leaders, Ampem Darkoa Ladies, in their epoch Match Day Nine to be played this weekend.

The two sides are separated by just a point in the northern zone, and their clash at the Prempeh College Park on Sunday could define their final positions on the league table of the northern zone.

Government seeks partnership from Malta for sports development

The Ministry of Youth and Sports is hopeful of securing a partnership with the government of Malta to fund the development of sports in the country.

According to the sector minister, Isaac Kwame Asiamah, Ghana could benefit from Malta's expertise in water sports to develop sports such as swimming as well as canoeing and rowing.

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has disclosed that money was not a factor in his decision to join Turkish club Kayerispor because he earned 7.5 million euros during his time in China with Shanghai SIPG.

Gyan joined Chinese Super League giants Shanghai SIPG in 2015 in a two-year deal which reportedly earned him in excess of £162,000 per week in wages.

Dogboe’s fight cost $170,000

Paul Dogboe, father and trainer of undefeated bantamweight pugilist, Isaac Dogboe, has disclosed that his Rising Star Promotions spent over $170,000 for the WBO International Super Bantamweight Championship between his son and Argentine Javier Chacon at the Bukom Boxing Arena last Saturday.

He lamented that it took his outfit a lot of money to organise the bout which gave his son a world title shot, having defeated Chacon by a technical knockout in round six following a hand injury sustained by the Argentine.

Win laurels for the nation - NSA boss tasks badminton team

The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr Robert Sarfo Mensah, has tasked the national badminton team to put up a spirited performance to win laurels for the nation at the Nigeria International Badminton competition slated to take place in Lagos from today to Saturday.

Mr Mensah charged the team at his office at the Accra sports Stadium  yesterday when the 24-man contingent, made up of 16 players, two coaches and six other officials, called on him ahead of their departure to Lagos.

Table tennis - Tesano Spinners clash with Immigration

The top-of-the-table clash between leaders Tesano Spinners and second placed and defending champions Immigration will set the D.G. Hathiramani Sports Hall of the Accra Stadium agog on Saturday as a packed third week of the Stanbic Bank-Graphic Sports Table Tennis League take centre stage.

Tony Baffoe, a FIFA and CAF General Co-ordinator, says the changes in the date for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will benefit both players and African football and bring harmony between Africa and European football.

He believes also, that the increment in the number of teams to participate in the AFCON will inure to the benefit of the ‘emerging’ teams on the continent, who often miss out on the competition, due to the difficult qualifying campaign.

BGC, GTA maintain momentum in cricket league

BGC and GTA both kept their places in the ongoing Greater Accra Cricket League after victories over Dilmah and City CC respectively at the Achimota Cricket Oval over the weekend.

BGC, playing Dilmah on Oval A, had to bat first after winning the toss. Their innings recorded 163-7 with James Vifah scoring Half a century (50), off 57 balls. In the bowling figures, Renju took 3-35 in six overs while Mukesh took 2-31 in six overs.
