He made a permanent transfer to Newcastle after a loan spell from Chelsea and has been a threat in their opening three matches against Tottenham Hotspur, Huddersfield Town and West Ham United.
The 25-year-old tormented Argentine defender Pablo Zabaleta in the 3-0 win over West Ham, setting up Joselu for the opening goal.
Below is the list of nominees
Christian Atsu – The Ghanaian saw his loan move made permanent this summer and after an impressive pre-season he’s looked a lively over our opening 3 games. He was our most threatening player in the 2-0 defeat to Spurs and caused Pablo Zabaleta all sorts of problems in the 3-0 win over West Ham, setting up Joselu for the opening goal too.
Ciaran Clark – One of our stand out performers last season and a player who hasn’t looked out of place on his return to the top flight. He did well in what became a make shift back four against Tottenham and made a superb last ditch clearance off the line and scored at the other end in our victory over West Ham last time out.
Mikel Merino – The 21-year old has really caught the eye since arriving on loan from Borussia Dortmund this summer. He showed his class in a short cameo against Spurs on the opening day, and after showing flashes in a mixed performance at Huddersfield, he ran the show against West Ham, getting the better of established Premier League midfielders and making us tick from first minute to last.
