MTN gives GH¢42,000 for 42nd SWAG Awards

Telecommunication giants, MTN Ghana, has supported this year's Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards with a whopping GH¢42,000 ahead of the event on May 27 at the Banquet Hall, State House in Accra.

The 42nd edition of the MTN-sponsored SWAG Awards, which is aimed at rewarding distinguished sports men and women who have excelled in their various fields of endeavour in the year 2016, was officially launched yesterday in Accra.

Filippo di Pierro, the boss of Spanish third division side Eldense, was arrested after his side's 12-0 defeat by Barcelona's B team on Saturday.

Bissah, the MEAC indoor champ in the 800m, ran her first race at that distance this outdoor season at W&M.

Wahab Oluwaseun survived a cut beneath his right eye to make a fourth successful defence of the national super-featherweight title by defeating Abraham Osei Bonsu by a controversial split decision at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra at dawn yesterday.

Oluwaseun sustained the cut in the fourth round after an aggressive onslaught by Bonsu in the opening rounds but he managed to convince the judges by putting down his opponent twice in the fifth and seventh rounds.

Kotoko capture top spot

Kumasi Asante Kotoko leapfrogged Aduana Stars to the top spot of the Premier League log despite being held to a scoreless draw by Inter Allies at the Baba Yara Stadium yesterday.

On a weekend which Aduana rested following the postponement of their clash with Wa All Stars, Kotoko earned a vital point at home as young Inter Allies goalkeeper, Kwame Baah, denied the Porcupine Warriors scoring opportunities that could have earned them a fifth straight home win.
