Abbey accuses Ref. Amoah - Calls on PLB to ensure sanity

Accra Hearts of Oak skipper, Thomas Abbey, is livid about Referee Prince Amoah’s indecision which denied the Phobians an obvious penalty in their Week 26 league top liner against Aduana Stars which ended 3-3 at the Accra Stadium last Wednesday.

According to him, the beautiful game is gradually losing its value due to poor officiating. He, therefore, appealed to the organisers of the league to put the necessary measures in place, especially in the refereeing department, to avert any unfortunate incident in the future.

Abbey, who scored one of Hearts three goals against Aduana Stars, had a penalty appeal ignored by the referee after an Aduana Stars defender handled the ball in his goal area during the game. The decision was one of a number of complaints made by Hearts players during the game.

“To tell you the truth, I am so disappointed in Referee Prince Amoah that, for a referee of his calibre, he performed so poorly in the game.

“I think the organisers of the league must take a second look at the performance of our referees because they are destroying our league. But for those weired decisions, we would have won the match against Aduana,” he lamented during a telephone interview yetsreday.

Poor officiating by Referee Amoah was a major talking point after the game as he left the pitch under a heavy security escort to escape the fury of Hearts fans.

It was a game the Phobians had to fight from behind on three occasions to pull parity as Daniel Darkwah, Derrick Sasraku and Nathaniel Asamoah scored for the visitors, while Winful Cobbinah, Thomas Abbey and Kwame Kizito scored to save the day for Frank Nuttall’s side.
