It was his eighth national record since his discovery in 2012.

The 80m mark  places him at the second position in Africa (16 ), and at the 11th position  in this year's world ranking. John's feat is only 18 inches under the World Championship qualifying mark.

Similarly, at the Penn Relays, Emmanuel Dasor and Elizabeth Dadzie made some good times of 46.5 seconds in both the men and women’s 4X400 relay races.

Meanwhile, Janet Amponsah has clocked a personal best  of 11.29 seconds in the women 100m. The time gave her an automatic qualifification for this year's World Championships. Most notably, it surpassed the 2016 Rio Olympic Games qualifying standard set by the  IAAF. The time has also made her the second best in Africa and 25th in the world ranking.

Janet also secured a personal best clocking 23.04 seconds in the 200 metres,  It was the fastest time clocked by a Ghanaian since 2006, and  made her  Africa's  best in the event and  28th in the world.

The mark also automatically qualified her for this summer's World Championships in Beijing, and ahead of the qualifying standard set for next year's Rio Olympic Games.

• Jordan Yamoah’s  recovery from last year's injury continues, and he is progressively scaling higher heights. He moved up again, to 5.22m in Houston, Texas. Already qualified for the All  Africa Games, this mark moves him into the third position in the Africa ranking.

Other notable performances  include Nadia Eke's 13.39m jump and Atsu Nyamadi's 4.10 metre personal best mark in the pole vault of 4.10m. Nadia is currently ranked third in Africa, and 26th in the world.
