Appiah goes with $91,500
Former Black Stars coach, Kwasi Appiah, is expected to finally walk home this week with a a total paycheque for $211,500 as the Ghana Football Association(GFA) prepares to put paid to all the lingering issues related to the stormy abrogation of the two-year contract of the Ghanaian as head coach of the senior national team.
News about Appiah’s rejection of a $100,000 compensation pervaded the media in the aftermath of the coach’s sudden dismissal, but the GFA has since dissociated itself from that claim with an FA source insisting the compensation package to Appiah is bigger than the amount being speculated.

The GFA source said the total severance package being offered Appiah was $91,500 which represented three months salary as stipulated in the two-year contract offered him before the Ghana’s World Cup campaign in Brazil.
In addition, Appiah is entitled to $120,000 which represents an outstanding signing-on fee for his two-year contract extension.
Officials of the FA has scoffed at reports that Coach Appiah was considering a legal option in search of a huge compensation for the sudden termination of his contract, but the source maintained yesterday in an interview with the Graphic Sports that the former Stars trainer could not demand from the association anything beyond what he [Appiah] himself agreed with his employers.
According to the source, both parties agreed that in the event that the to parties decided to part ways by mutual consent, Appiah would be entitled to three months salary as compensation.
“Appiah knows this and will not make any further demands. Those saying that he is entitled to $876,000 are only misleading the public,” he said.
In a surprise move last Thursday, Appiah was relieved of his post as head coach of the national team in what the GFA described as “parting ways by mutual consent”.

His dismissal came barely 24 hours after he led the Stars to beat Togo 3-2 in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Lome, and just two months after GFA president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, renewed the association’s confidence in the coach by announcing a two-year renewal of his contract.
