Basigi names squad for African Women's Championship
Black Queens head coach, Yusif Basigi, has dropped nine players as he named his final squad for the African Women’s Championship (AWC) in Cameroon.
Alima Sadia Moro, the only foreign-based shot stopper in the team, as well as Deborah Afriyie, who was touted as the Lionel Messi of the side were dropped from the squad.
Another goalie, Beatrice Nketsia, and defenders Hillia Kobblah, Mabel Baffoe Eshun, Agnes Quaye, Rita Otchere and Alberta Asante were all dropped.
The squad for the tournament features eight foreign-based players and 13 home-based stars.
US-based Florence Dadson and Swedish duo of Elizabeth Addo and Portia Boakye made it into the final 21 despite reporting late to camp.
In all, three goalkeepers, six defenders, eight midfielders and four attackers were selected.
