Ghana's Black Satellites have been eliminated from the 2026 WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship after playing out a goalless draw with Togo in their final Group B match at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro, Côte d'Ivoire, yesterday.
Needing victory to secure a place in the next stage of the competition, the Black Satellites were unable to find the breakthrough and bowed out at the group stage.
Ghana entered the decisive encounter under pressure after suffering a 4-2 defeat to Nigeria in their opening match before drawing 1-1 with Burkina Faso in their second outing.
Those results left Coach Maxwell Konadu's side with no option but to beat Togo to keep their campaign alive.
The Black Satellites dominated large spells of the game and created several scoring opportunities, but a combination of poor finishing and resolute defending by the Togolese denied them the crucial goal.
Despite the disappointing exit, the tournament provided valuable lessons for the Ghanaian side.
The players showed resilience, determination and attacking intent throughout the competition while gaining useful experience against some of the strongest youth teams in the West African sub-region.
Head coach Maxwell Konadu also used the championship to assess his squad in a competitive environment, giving several players the opportunity to stake their claim for places in the team ahead of future assignments.
