‘Future of disabled lies in sports’

A board member of Special Olympics Ghana, Nana Wereko-Ampim, has said the future of the intellectually disabled in Ghana lies in sports.

He said it was, therefore, important for corporate bodies, institutions and the government to partner the board in diverse ways in nurturing the potentials of athletes and develop them more meaningfully. 

Addressing athletes and dignitaries at the opening ceremony of the ongoing national Special Olympics Floorball Advancement Games at the Dzoworlu Basic School in Accra last Saturday, Nana Wereko-Ampim, a treasurer of the board, said supporting the board in diverse ways would galvanise them to harness and develop the potential of athletes to the fullest.

The Olympics Floor Games will be used to select a team to represent Ghana at the Winter World Games to be held in March 2017 in the city of Graz, Austria.

A total of 14 selected special schools in the country have converged on Accra to participate in the maiden competition.
