Jamaica were indomitable in the women's 4x100m relay athletics final at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, streaking ahead of the seven other teams to claim gold in a time of 42.65 seconds.
Their squad of Alana Reid, Jodean Williams, Lavanya Williams and Ashanti Moore laid claim to being the fastest team in Commonwealth, with Moore flying ahead of their nearest rivals on the anchor leg.
The feat came on Jamaica's Emancipation Day (1 August) no less, a fact that Reid pointed out to reporters after the race.
"It's all about trust," she added, standing shoulder to shoulder with her team. "I remember, I think two years back, Shelly [Ann Fraser-Pryce] told us that we must trust each other. She's been a big source of motivation for our athletes."
Canada finished second to claim the silver medal in a time of 42.76, while Trinidad & Tobago held off Australia in the closing metres to claim bronze at 43.07.
Canada's Marie-Eloise Leclair also touched on the key to their relay squad's own successes: “I think the beautiful thing is that we're able to learn from each other and we accept to grow together. Everyone is always ready to teach and learn.
"We're very attentive to each other and what we need, but especially to the standards that we set."
