Gold Fields PGA Champs: Vincent Torgah takes lead on Day 1
Former winner Vincent Torgah shot a course record nine-under-par 63 to end the first round of the Gold Fields Professional Golfers Association (PGA) Championship as the leader.
Centre of the World Golf Club star, Torgah shot several birdies at the Darmang Golf Club to carry the opening round of action on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.

He was trailed on the professionals' leaderboard by another former winner Emos Korblah and Amponsah P.Q. who both carded a three-under-par 69 to finish tied in second place.
The top ten of a field of 26 regular professional golfers was completed by Atiso Quarshie, Ernest Opoku, Owusu Bonsu Maxwell, last year's winner Lucky Ayisah, John Mawuli Nyarko, Godwin Sai, former winner Kojo Barnni and Vincent Coffie, Govinious T.K. and Patey Phillip who tied in 11th place.
Senior's contest
In the senior's event, Akwasi Prempeh recorded a course par 72 to finish atop the leaderboard with a three-shot lead.
In second place was Charles Chichi who played an opening round 75 to place second and Robert Degbe and James Larry who both carded a 78.
Twelve senior golfers competed in the Senior's Game which had Dawuda Mahama (80) and Peter Korsah (80) rounding out the top five.
Achieve success on merit
The Executive Vice President and Head of Gold Fields West Africa, Alfred Baku urged Golfers in the Championship to achieve success on merit.
"I know all of you will like to take the GHS 40,000.00 home which is great it makes the competitions go higher but please win it on merit," he said.

"I'm going to walk the 18 with the last group on Saturday so if you want me to come and see your game try and be in the top three because I want to also see the course.
"What I will advise all of you [Golfers] is don't go with the same ball please check before you [Golfers] start so as no one can cheat you [Golfers]".
