Johnnie Walker Annual Ghana Golf Championship tees off at Achimota May 30
The fairways of the Achimota Golf Club are set to come alive as the highly anticipated Johnnie Walker Annual Ghana Golf Championship tees off on Thursday, May 30, 2024.
The two-day tournament, curated by Guinness Ghana, marks a new chapter in the country’s golfing culture, blending sport with luxury, heritage, and innovation.
For the first time, Ghana’s golfing calendar welcomes an event designed not just to showcase athletic precision but to celebrate lifestyle and legacy. Organisers say the championship is more than a contest — it is a platform for redefining how golf is experienced and remembered in Ghana.
“This is a grand celebration of craft, character, and the bold strides being made in Ghana’s sporting and cultural space,” organisers said in a statement.
Day one of the championship will kick off with competitive rounds among 120 selected players — dubbed “The Iconic 120” — made up of seasoned golfers, corporate leaders, and emerging talents. The evening will feature the Mirrorball Experience, a stylish gathering infused with music, cocktails, and curated conversations aimed at immersing guests in the world of Johnnie Walker Blue Label.
On the second day, players will return to the course for the final rounds, culminating in an awards ceremony that is expected to honour outstanding performances and celebrate personalities contributing to the evolution of golf in Ghana.
The tournament also coincides with the 65th anniversary of Guinness Ghana, whose involvement in the event signals a significant investment in both sport and cultural identity.
“As Guinness Ghana marks this milestone, it does so by stepping onto the course, inviting a new generation to walk with purpose and to raise a glass not just to tradition, but to reinvention,” the company noted.
With Achimota Golf Club serving as the backdrop, the championship is drawing attention not only for its competitive elements but also for its symbolism. It signals that golf in Ghana is no longer confined to a select few — it is becoming a space of connection, ambition, and national pride.
Organisers believe the Johnnie Walker Ghana Golf Championship will leave a lasting impression, cementing its place as a flagship event in Ghana’s sporting and social calendar.
