Medeama plot to rout Al-Ittihad

The President of Medeama Sporting Club, Moses Armah, has predicted a 3-0 victory over Al-Ittihad of Libya at Essipon on Sunday to book their place in 1/16th stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The MTN FA Cup champions suffered a 0-1 defeat to the Libyans in the first leg duel in Sfax, Tunisia, last Sunday, but Mospacka says his boys will overturn the deficit at home and progress in the competition.

“We will beat them 3-0 at home in Essipon on Sunday. We will surely qualify,” the confident bankroller gave assurance in a telephone interview with the Graphic Sports yesterday.

He praised Medeama for acquitting themselves well in the first leg of the preliminary round tie and attributed the slim loss to inexperience and a biting cold weather which took a toll on the players.

“The boys played so well and were unlucky to lose the game mainly due to the cold weather and inexperience,” he noted.

He revealed that but for a great save by the Al-Ittihad goalkeeper, man-of-the-match Malik Akowuah, would have snatched the equaliser for Medeama.

According to Mospacka, the team moved straight to Sekondi on their return from Tunis last Wednesday, highly motivated to bang in the goals and set the pace for another impressive run similar to what transpired in 2014.

In their African debut in the same competition two years ago, the Tarkwa-based club showed so much promise only to stop short of the money zone.

He disclosed further that Medeama’s chances would be boosted with the inclusion of gifted Atta Adjei, who missed the first leg on technical grounds.

Led by midfield general Akowuah, who is in a form of his life, Coach Tom Strand’s starting line-up will surely include enigmatic Kwame Boahene, influential Kwasi Donsu, Atta Adjei, Benjamin Bature, Abass Mohammed, Moses Sarpong, Samuel Adade, and dependable goalkeeper Muntari Tagoe, who was also outstanding in the first leg.

The match officials are Senegalese referee Daouda Gueye  and his compatriots El Hadji Abdoul Aziz Gueye and Nouha Bangoura. Kick-off is at 3p.m.
