Media schooled on Combat Jiu Jitsu, Grappling and Self Defence
The Professional Combat Sports Association of Ghana in association with the Ghana Jiu Jitsu Federation (GJJF) have organized a Combat Jiu Jitsu referees and judges course which was attended by sports journalists at the Will Power Gym at James Town in Accra.
Participants were taken through the basics and foundation of the art, as well as scoring and opportunities in the sport.
In demonstrating the technique used in Combat Jiu Jitsu, the Technical Director of GJJF, Mr Maxwell Borquaye, revealed that Ghana has been selected alongside Egypt out of 13 nations to represent Africa at the World Combat Jiu Jitsu Championship in Ukraine in May.

“This course is very good for participants because it helps in self-defence,” Mr Borquaye said.
The training also saw a course in a grappling officiating course before the self-defence training which some journalists took part.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Professional Combat Sports Association, Evans Bernie Johnson, appealed to corporate Ghana to support the least financed sports like grappling and they will see their investments yielding positive results.
He said combat sport is exciting and entertaining and called on media personnel to take up the challenge to learn the tricks which he believes will help them on their field of work.
“We are really looking forward to seeing media personnel taking part in combat sports to help them in their line of duty.
“I also want to take this opportunity to call on corporate Ghana to support least financed sports like ours and I believe we will not let the nation down,” Johnson noted.
