MOYS signs MoU with Hungary
The Minister of Youth and Sports (MOYS),Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Hungarian government to collaborate in the development of sports among the youth and disadvantaged groups in Ghana.
The MoU, which was signed last Tuesday, will give the country access to Hungary's expertise in youth development and the training of sports coaches.
"Ghana stands to gain a lot from this, as Hungary has a long-standing history in the training of science students, and also in the area of sports," Mr Vanderpuye told the Daily Graphic after signing the deal.
He said, "they have wonderful sports infrastructure, and over the period, they have trained a lot of our sports resource persons. A lot of our football and handball coaches were trained in Hungary in the past."
According to the Minister, Hungary would also help the Ministry to re-open existing youth training centres in order to reduce youth unemployment.
The Minister of Human Resource for Hungary, Mr Zoltan Balog, who signed on behalf of the Hungarian government, described the event as an important step forward, and expressed delight for renewing the existing relationship between the two countries.
"We appreciate the achievement of sports in Ghana, and since Hungary is also a sports nation, this agreement in the field of sports will benefit the young, especially the vulnerable groups”. he said.
