Obour rules Central Region GNPC Ghana’s Fastest Human

An ever improving Grace Obour of the University of Ghana put up a spirited performance last Saturday to win the Central and Western regional edition of the 2020 GNPC Ghana’s Fastest Human at the Cape Coast Stadium.

A bronze medalist at this year’s Africa Games, the sprinter made light challenges from University of Cape Coast’s Josephine Avemegah (11.60 seconds) and Benedicta Kwartemaa (11.94 seconds) to win the day.

With a time of 11.45 seconds, Obour improved upon her time of 12.14 seconds which she secured in 2018 to grab bronze.

In the absence of the region’s 2018 winner, Edwin Gadayi, it was University of Education, Winneba’s Fuseini Ibrahim who, despite a poor start, managed to gather more pace racing from behind to cross the finished line with a time of 10.02 seconds to win in the men’s seniors category.

He was closely followed by Solomon Hammond, who clocked 10.14 seconds, and Saminu Abdul Rashid, who clocked 10.38 seconds, to book a place in the grand finale.

Beyond these, 73 other athletes from the regions have also qualified to contest in the grand finale slated for June 20 to search for qualification to the Speedsters Club.

Other winners on the day were James Dadzie who won the Under-18 sprint competition with a time of 10.56 second followed by Frederick Cobbinah and Daniel Amartey who complete with a time of 10.70 seconds and 10.86 seconds respectively to finish in that other.
