Our league triumph not fluke — Medeama Coach

Coach of the Ghana Premier League champions, Medeama SC, has dismissed suggestions that his side’s title-winning campaign was by luck, insisting the success was the result of hard work and dedication throughout the season.

The former Assistant Coach of the Black Stars, Ibrahim Tanko, said the team deserved to be crowned champions because of the enormous effort and resources invested during the campaign.

“It’s a good feeling to win the league, but I don’t think it was a fluke. We worked very hard for it,” Tanko said in an interview.

The coach expressed appreciation to the club’s management, board members, president, technical team and players for their collective contribution to the success story.

According to him, the club’s ability to produce four national team players during the season highlights the quality and commitment within the squad.

He, however, refused to single out any player as his favourite, stressing that the triumph was a collective effort.

Tanko revealed that victories against Bibiani Gold Stars and Basake Holy Stars convinced him that the league title was within reach.

“I think the day we beat Bibiani Gold Stars and the game against Basake Holy Stars, after that game, I was 90 to 95 per cent sure that we were going to win the league,” he stated.

He added that securing a strong finish against Heart of Lions with one game remaining was another major achievement for the club.

Tanko also announced that the team would officially receive the league trophy on Wednesday and called on supporters to join in the celebrations at Tarkwa.
