The Queens’ fate was made uncertain following a 1-1 draw with Cameroun yesterday. But the Indomitable Lionesses sailed through to the semifinals after gaining two points with two goals.

However, the Black Queens and their South African group rivals had equal statistics -- each team have two points and a goal apiece -- and must wait for the drawing of lots today to decide who plays Nigeria on Wednesday.

The Queens started off well and dominated early possessions, winning the midfield exchanges. But chances were few and far between.

In the 36th minute a one-two play between Rita Okyere and Rosemary Ampem nearly fetched the opener for Ghana but their efforts went wasted.

The Queens probed for the opener and their efforts paid off in the 32nd minute when winger Hilia Mantey Cobblah was released from the flanks on the right. She sprinted with the ball into the Lionesses goal area before firing home the opening goal, sending the small Ghanaian supporters into frenzy.

After the break, the Lionesses lifted up their game but found the Queens’ defence unyielding until the 55th minute when unmarked striker Akaba Edoua scored the equalising goal for Cameroun.

Both teams engaged in a midfield battle and as the game wore on the exchanges became very physical and resulted in a number of hold-ups due to injuries.

In the 84th minute the Queens had a clear penalty when Cobblah was brought down in the box but the referee rejected the appeal.
