Vorsah regrets missing 2014 World Cup

Former Black Stars defender Isaac Vorsah has expressed regret over the injury that ruled him out of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, describing it as one of the most disappointing moments of his career.

Vorsah, who was a member of Ghana’s squad at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, said he had been eager to feature at the Brazil tournament but was sidelined despite assurances that he would recover in time.

“Of course, I feel disappointed I didn’t play in the 2014 World Cup because of injury,” he told Graphic Sports in an interview last Friday.

“The coaches came to me and said my doctors said I would be fit before the World Cup, so I feel disappointed that I disappointed my own country.”

Now 37 and retired from active football, the former TSG 1899 Hoffenheim defender admitted he sometimes wishes he could return to the pitch when he sees younger players representing the national team.

“Sometimes when I watch football, I wish I could play again, but there is no chance, so I only support the young ones,” he said.

Vorsah noted that although injuries were an inevitable part of football, he was grateful his own setback did not end his career entirely.

“There are some injuries that you cannot play again, but there are certain injuries that after some time you will recover and get back onto the pitch,” he explained.

During his career, Vorsah featured for clubs, including Red Bull Salzburg, Liefering, ASFAR and Ohod.

He challenged current Black Stars players to remain committed as they prepare for future World Cup campaigns, stressing that dedication was key to achieving success.

“I need them to be committed to themselves, and if they do that, they will go further,” he said.

Commenting on the quality of Ghana’s defence today, Vorsah said the country still had strong defensive options but emphasised the importance of continuity and understanding among players.

“There are many good defenders now, but they need to play together consistently to build the telepathy that helps them perform better,” he added.
