Yammin, Razak to launch academy in Sandema today

The Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, Joseph Yammin, and the 1978 African Footballer of the Year and one-time Kumasi Asante Kotoko head Coach, “Golden Boy” Abdul Razak, will launch the Awaambe Sports Academy at Sandema in the Upper East Region today.

The Paramount Chief of the Bulsa Traditional Council, Nab Azaagsuk Azantilow II, his sub-chiefs, the Member of Parliament and Deputy Interior Minister,  Mr James Agalga, the Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Daniel Syme, the District Chief Executive for Bulsa North, Mr Bonaventure Adangabe; the DCE for Bulsa South, Madam Afiuc Elizabeth Jane, and a host of prominent individuals will also grace the event.

The multi-purpose project, which is the brainchild of the Chief Executive Officer of Kumasi-based Sports Consortium, Authentic sports, and president of Bukarson concepts, Listowell Yesu Bukarson, will be named after his father, the late R.S.M Bukari Kanjaga Awaambe.

Mr Bukarson, the former Public and Supporters Relations Manager and Marketing Manager of Kotoko, told the Daily Graphic that the Awaambe Sports Academy was his contribution to sports development in the three northern regions of Ghana in particular and Ghana at large.

A radio presenter since 1997, he said “sports is the only event that unites a people; it has no respect for political, religious, tribal, segregation.

“This is why the European Parliament has desperately fallen on sports as the surest means of achieving the MDGs.”

A total of 16 teams from the Bulsa South and North Districts will participate in a two-day justifier to select 25 players to start the academy.

The Awaambe Sports Academy will concentrate on Under 12-15, Under 16-18, and Under 18-21 male and female football teams.
