Zamalek ordered to pay $1.25m to former Hearts player
Former Accra Hearts of Oak defender, Karim Alhassan, is set to be $1.25 million richer after world football governing body, FIFA, awarded him compensation for his unlawful dismissal by Zamalek.
According to Egyptian news portal, Ahram Online, the Cairo giants have been ordered to pay the Ghanaian defender $1.25 million after sacking him in 2012.
The Whites acquired the 25-year-old's services in 2011 from Ghanaian side Hearts, but released him in the summer of 2012 after he spent the entire season warming the bench without a single league appearance.
Alhassan, who currently plies his trade for Sudanese side Al-Merrikh, filed a complaint with FIFA, which culminated in this verdict compensating him.
According to the letter sent by the world football governing body to Zamalek, the player is entitled to the entire amount stipulated in his contract after the unilateral termination of his five-year deal.
This is the second time Zamalek will pay a fine over Alhassan's transfer after FIFA in 2014 ordered them to pay $80,000 to Hearts for developing the player.
However, Zamalek are expected to appeal the verdict.
