Sports betting giant Betway has stepped up its corporate social responsibility efforts by delivering two fully installed solar-powered "Power Up" units to residents of Ballagonnor in the Danchira Electoral Area of the Ga South Municipality.
The initiative, which forms part of Betway Ghana’s flagship CSR programme, “Betway Cares”, aims to empower disadvantaged communities with sustainable energy solutions and digital access. The donation was made on July 23, 2025, and is expected to significantly improve access to basic power, lighting, and mobile charging for residents.
Speaking during the handing-over ceremony, the Assemblyman for the Danchira Electoral Area, Hon. Ahorter Ebenezer, lauded the intervention, describing it as both “timely and impactful.”
“These solar units will enhance the lives of residents, especially those who rely on mobile connectivity and digital tools for everyday needs,” he said.
Betway Ghana’s Country Manager for Marketing, Mr Kwabena Oppong-Nkrumah, reiterated the company’s long-term vision to drive inclusive energy access.
“With Power Up, we are going beyond entertainment to provide real, lasting solutions. At Betway, we believe access to power and connectivity should not be a privilege but a necessity,” he stated. “This is part of our broader vision to promote sustainable energy inclusion and create meaningful, community-based impact across Ghana.”
The Power Up units are specially designed hubs equipped with solar panels, mobile charging ports, and lighting to support communities lacking reliable electricity. According to Betway, the units are part of a growing effort to bridge the infrastructure gap in underserved areas, particularly rural communities.
The ceremony drew participation from traditional leaders, district authorities, residents, and the media. Notably, Channel One TV, which initially spotlighted Ballagonnor’s electricity challenges, was present to document the delivery and capture community reactions.
Betway said the initiative will be extended to other communities across rural Ghana as it continues to support long-term development through its Betway Cares platform.
Betway’s parent company, Super Group, operates in over 20 global jurisdictions and is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker SGHC. In Ghana, the brand is known not only for its sports betting and gaming offerings but also for its investments in community development, sports infrastructure, and youth engagement.
