GB-TBSC VERSION 6.0: UGBS upset the odds
When many thought they were just an addition to the two highly fancied University of Education Winneba (UEW), who are the defending champions, and former winners Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) rose to the occasion to become the first tertiary institute in the Greater Accra Region to win the sixth edition of the Graphic Business Tertiary Business Sense Challenge (TBSC) staged at the GNAT Hall in Accra last Tuesday.
The Legon-based school secured 86.8 points to top the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), who scored second position with 73.5 points, and defending champions University of Education Winneba (UEW), who came third with 72.5 points.

It was an enthralling competition that kept supporters of the three schools on tenterhooks until the final round.
Legon zoomed into action and won the first round, the theory section, with a score of 13 against KNUST’s 7 and UEW’s 5.
From there, the Peter Emeka Ike-led quartet, which included Edwin Entsiey, Jonathan Nii Nai Sowah and Prince Ascod Bordoh, stayed composed under enormous pressure from their challengers to pull away in the third and fourth rounds to win the sixth edition of the competition.
Not even the seemingly huge upset from KNUST in the fifth round, which is the riddles where they dominated, could stop UGBS from winning their first trophy.
For their reward, each student of UGBS received an insurance cover of GHS20,000, HP laptops, souvenirs from sponsors, a gold medal and a giant trophy.
UGBS also went home with a trophy for being the South East Zonal champions while KNUST took a trophy for being the Middle Zone champions, with UEW going home with a trophy for being the South West Zone champions.

Other consolation prizes included GHS1,000, 1,500 and 2500 fuel coupons to UEW, KNUST and UGBS respectively, which were given by one of the sponsors, Goil Ghana.
Contest
As supporters of the three schools cheered the contestants on, emotions ran high in a charged atmosphere, as favourites, UEW, wobbled in the first two rounds.
Second favourites KNUST also failed to shine in the initial rounds as UGBS seized the initiative.
There was no turning back from the lads from Legon as they steadied their business ship to victory.

However, it was not without challenges and staunch competition from rivals UEW and KNUST.
Moreso, in the fourth and fifth rounds of the competition, KNUST finally woke up from their slumber.
But it was a little too late when the star of the show and most outstanding student of this year's contest, Peter Emeka Ike, answered the sixth riddle in the eight riddle questions of the fifth round to settle matters between the three.

Jubilant supporters of UGBS shouted in ecstasy at the end of the final riddle, even before the quizmaster could declare the scores.
Solving challenges
Speaking on this year's theme: ''Promoting a holistic business mindset for sustainable entrepreneurship and financial independence", the Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group Limited, Ato Afful, said the quiz aims to build the potential of contestants and business students in the country to solve pressing
problems using innovation and becoming good entrepreneurs and creators.
He charged the students to use the opportunity to form partnerships that will engender the creation of business ideas for the benefit of society.
