KIC partners with FDA Ghana to boost food innovation start-ups
Young entrepreneurs in Ghana’s food industry are set to benefit from a partnership between the Kosmos Innovation Center (KIC) and the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) Ghana.
The collaboration aims to equip food innovation start-ups with the necessary regulatory knowledge and support to fast-track their products to market while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
Under the partnership, KIC and FDA Ghana will offer training, mentorship, and guidance to help entrepreneurs navigate the FDA certification process. This initiative is expected to eliminate key regulatory hurdles that often slow down the growth of start-ups in the food sector.
At the signing ceremony, Benjamin Gyan-Kesse, Executive Director of KIC, emphasized the significance of the collaboration: "By supporting start-ups to achieve FDA certification, we are ensuring that their products meet global standards, create access to new markets and opportunities while safeguarding the health and safety of consumers. This partnership will also help to establish mentorship and advisory sessions that align food innovation with regulatory excellence," he stated.
FDA’s commitment to MSME growth
The CEO of the FDA, Dr. Delese Mimi Darko, reaffirmed the Authority’s dedication to supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in achieving compliance to enhance food safety.
"As regulators with a difference, the FDA is not only focused on enforcement but also on empowering MSMEs to meet compliance standards and bring their products to market with ease. This commitment is embodied in our Progressive Licensing Scheme," she noted.
She further highlighted the crucial role of the FDA’s Industrial Support Directorate, which provides targeted assistance to businesses, ensuring they receive expert guidance to navigate regulatory requirements successfully.
This collaboration reflects KIC’s ongoing mission to drive entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainable business growth in Ghana. It also underscores the FDA’s commitment to consumer safety while supporting local businesses to thrive.
Through this initiative, young agripreneurs and food innovators will now have the tools to develop and scale their products with greater confidence, ensuring they meet both local and international quality standards.
