Kwahu Asabi Royal Foundation hosts transformational development summit in Afram Plains

The Kwahu Asabi Royal Foundation, under the leadership of Nana Otukwa Mpareko VI, reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable grassroots development over the weekend of May 17–18, 2025, with the successful hosting of the third edition of its annual Interprofessional Collaboration for Community Development (ICCD) Summit in Amankwakrom, Afram Plains.

Themed “Collaboration for Development,” the two-day summit brought together stakeholders and professionals from the health, education, and agriculture sectors with a shared vision of harnessing the vast socio-economic potential of the Afram Plains. The event aimed to build a self-reliant future for the region through strategic partnerships and community-led initiatives.

The summit featured a rich blend of cultural, social, and developmental activities. A traditional food bazaar showcased the region’s culinary heritage and the talents of its youth. Residents also benefitted from free health screenings and National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registrations facilitated through a collaboration with the Presbyterian Hospital. In addition, a research and data collection exercise on menstrual hygiene management stigma and shame was conducted, led by Dr. Sevaughn Banks, a professor at Stanislaus State University in the United States.

The event drew praise from participants and partners alike, many of whom underscored the critical need for interprofessional collaboration to unlock the region’s full potential. Mr. Benoni Akpetey, Director of Operations at Octagon Development Limited, applauded the Foundation’s model and pledged continued support. “We will continue to support by making agricultural inputs and services available to various farmer groups,” he stated, reiterating Octagon’s alignment with the Foundation’s mission.

Offering an international perspective, Ms. Aseda Otabil, Deputy General Manager at Pureco Africa—a Budapest-based water engineering company—expressed the organisation’s dedication to innovating within Ghana’s agriculture sector. “Pureco is committed to contributing our expertise to explore ways of infusing cutting-edge water storage systems, rainwater harvesting solutions, and efficient irrigation technologies into Afram Plains agriculture,” she said. She further urged collective responsibility in safeguarding the region’s natural resources. “It is our collective responsibility to protect what we have, lest we one day look back and realize we were careless with a resource so vital to life.”

Hon. Wolarse Kpeli, Member of Parliament for Afram Plains North, praised the Foundation’s leadership and called on the wider community to take ownership of development initiatives. “Agriculture is our key advantage and it takes a united community to harness its full potential,” he remarked.

For Nana Otukwa Mpareko VI, the summit marked the convergence of traditional authority and modern development planning. “This summit reflects traditional leadership working with modern development strategies to drive change,” he said, noting that the Foundation’s agenda is deeply aligned with Ghana’s broader national development goals.

As the 2025 ICCD Summit concluded, it celebrated not only past achievements but also laid a roadmap for the future. The Kwahu Asabi Royal Foundation’s renewed focus on interprofessional collaboration underscores Afram Plains' growing profile as a region ready to transform potential into lasting progress.
