Nyonkopa Cocoa Buying Limited adjudged Best Agribusiness Company

Nyonkopa Cocoa Buying Limited has been awarded the 2017 Best Agribusiness Company at the maiden edition of the Ghana Business Awards held at Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra last Friday.

The company is a subsidiary of Barry Callebaut, the world’s leading manufacturer of high-quality chocolate and cocoa products.

It employs 475 people and has 6,000 purchasing clerks and 850 community coordinators across the country.

In an Interview with the Graphic Business after the ceremony, the Managing Director of Nyonkopa Cocoa Buying Limited, Dr Joshy Varkey, said the company was committed to achieving the government’s vision of producing one million metric tonnes of cocoa yearly.

He said the company was dedicated to improving livelihoods and contributing to the economic development of the country through the provision of jobs for indigenous people across the cocoa-growing districts.

Earlier at the awards ceremony, the Executive Director of the Ghana Business Awards, Mr Latif Abubakar, urged Ghanaian businesses across the diaspora to extend their businesses home, saying: “It is one thing to set up a business and another producing compelling value for it.”

The Minister of Business Development, Dr Mohammed Awal, acknowledged the immense support businesses had provided to the economy and urged them to continue to uphold standards in their operations. — GB
