Jean-Medard Madama, Managing Director of Tullow Ghana said: “At its core, “More than Oil” is a  film about people. We wanted to show not just the projects, but the human impact—how a new dormitory block, science lab, or a skills training programme can completely change someone’s life and give them hope for the future. It is extremely heartwarming to embark on social-economic interventions that create a lasting impact on the lives and communities in our operational areas.”

“The documentaries go beyond our impact to the partnerships we’ve built with many local suppliers,” said Cynthia Lumor, Tullow Ghana’s Deputy Managing Director. “The stories you’ll see are a testament to the resilience and determination of Ghanaians, and we’re honoured to collaborate and extend a helping hand in that journey.”

A shorter documentary, “Made In Ghana” focuses on Tullow’s support for local resource in the energy sector. It dives deeper into Tullow Ghana’s local content agenda and tells the transformational story of Ghana’s oil and gas industry from a past of heavy reliance on foreign expertise, to the present-day reality of highly competent local talent from all walks of life.

Testimonials spanning MDs of local energy sector firms, technical managers of indigenous companies, junior workers and other technicians and engineers, showcase the various ways in which Tullow’s investment into Ghana’s workforce has yielded lasting results.

A sneak peek into the stories:

Education: Explore the special ambience created for kindergarten students along the Western fishing coastline and how the enhanced learning environment is setting them up for a brighter future.

Livelihoods empowerment: Follow Esther, a former fishmonger turned cement seller, who is now able to support her family during fishing off-seasons through her growing business which she started after receiving a loan and financial training.

Environmental stewardship: Witness the efforts of a local community to repurpose seaweed into building blocks for sustainable business infrastructure for fishmongers.

Local content: Celebrate the admirable strides made in empowering Ghanaians along the industry’s value chain through knowledge transfer, skills training, and hands-on capacity building.
