The immediate past Managing Director of Tex Styles Ghana Limited, producers of GTP and  Woodin fabrics, Mr Kofi Boateng, has called on Ghanaian workers to maintain a serene business environment for businesses to thrive.

“The ‘business environment is challenging and, therefore, they need to remain calm to help the companies grow,” he said.

Farewell message

He said this in a farewell message during a send-off  held in his honour in Tema. Mr Boateng, who served the company for 37 years, retired at the end of last month.

The call comes at a time when many workers agitate at the least opportunity to demand high remuneration even at a time when the companies they work for are in financial distress.

Such actions have led to retrenchments among many other things which do not augur well for the workers.

Attendance

The ceremony attracted over 600 members of staff, trade partners from Accra, family, old schoolmates and friends of Mr Boateng.

Mr Boateng, who rose through the ranks to become the MD in 2014, is a product of Achimota School and the University of Ghana Business School.

He started his career in 1979 with Kumasi Brewery Limited as management trainee, after completing his national service with the Volta River Authority.

He later joined Unilever Ghana Limited as a management accountant and became the commercial manager of UAC Textiles as Group Finance/Sales Director.

In 2002, he was appointed the Finance Director of Woodin International and rose to become the Managing Director of Vlisco in July 2014.

He was later presented with gifts from the various departments of the company.

The Chaplain of the Achimota School,  Rev. Kingsley Gyekye, prayed for the well-being of Mr Boateng in his retirement.
