Burna Boy claims Afrobeats is empty and lacks substance
Renowned Nigerian Afrobeats artiste Burna Boy has sparked controversy with his remarks about the state of Afrobeats music in Nigeria.
In a recent interview with American based DJ Zane Lowe for Apple Music, the Grammy winner revealed that most African artistes don't really have real life experiences and that's why Afrobeats is mostly about nothing.

The talented singer further stressed that Afrobeats is literally nothing because there is no substance and that the genre is all about "A great and amazing time".
"Not even experience because 90 percent of them have no real life experiences that they can understand which is why you hear most of Nigerian Music or I will say African Music, I don't even know what to say, Afrobeats that's what you people call it is mostly about nothing, literally nothing, there is no substance to it, like nobody is talking about anything, it's just a great time, just an amazing time", he said.
Burna Boy’s comments has stirred massive reactions from the general public with many taking to the comment section to react.
On Monday, August 21, Burna Boy released the tracklist for his upcoming album, ‘I Told Them’.
The self-styled African Giant took to social media on Monday to share the artwork for the music project.
The 17-track album features 15 songs and two music videos for his singles ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’ and ‘Big 7’.

The album boasts of guest appearances from Nigerian Street-hop sensation Seyi Vibez who appears on ‘Giza’ and American platinum-selling rapper J Cole who is on ‘Thanks’.
The album is Burna’s 7th studio album and is set for release on Friday, August 25.
