We can wait no longer, Mr President!

There are those who believe that it is too early to evaluate the current government, six months into its administration. To them, I say, time and tide wait for no man.

There are those who believe that Ghanaians ought to wait for some time to finally see the change they clamoured for.

To them, I say, listen to the voices of people on the street, the shouts of "We can wait no longer.”

Perhaps it is easier for those who have never felt the stinging darts of poverty, deprivation and injustice to say "Wait."

However, when you have seen a vicious mob lynch your husband and vandals take laws into their hands given a leeway; when you have seen ministers of state  trampled on our laws freed; when you have seen the vast majority of your own brothers plunged into poverty in the midst of an affluent few, when fears of unemployment haunt you like a nightmare, then you will realise why it is difficult to wait.

There comes a time when the cup of endurance runs over and men are no longer willing to be plunged into the abyss of despair. And I do believe such is the time now and Ghanaians are no longer willing to wait.

The current government, in its quest to win power, promised Ghanaians to restore our country to greater heights.

It held several press conferences where it sought to bring to light the incompetencies of the past administration; however, six months into its administration, the government seems to be doing nothing but singing tunes of hope and appealing for support.

Prejudice and partiality

Before the elections, President Akufo-Addo - then flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) - was portrayed as a man who had no ears for prejudice and no eyes for partiality.

But after his election, the President has showed a big heart for his close associates who do wrong.

He has shown that he has a big heart that is good at burying the mistakes of his sympathisers, for instance the members of the Delta Force, who are of his own party and derided a court of the land.

Youth activists from his own party, who violated the laws of the land have not as yet been sanctioned.

Misplaced priorities

Given Ghana's abysmal economic performance in recent years, the last thing any Ghanaian had expected was an announcement declaring the government's intention to sponsor christians in Ghana on a pilgrimage to Israel.

Not only did this announcement hint of the inefficacy of this administration, more so, it validated the worst beliefs held by most Ghanaians, including myself, about the inability of this government to alleviate Ghanaians from the miseries we find ourselves in.

Most of us had thought the government would have  rebuilt our economy, transformed our educational sector and upheld our laws as its main motives, but it seems the government cares more about sending people to pray for our country at the expense of an ailing economy.

Lacklustre security

There has never been a time in Ghana when I have feared for my life more than I do now.

It is no longer safe to take a stroll, because you never know what the man next to you holds in his hand.

Given the recent surge in militant attacks globally and murder cases in Ghana, Ghanaians no longer feel our security has what it takes to protect us in case of any unfortunate incident.

Ghanaians are tired of hearing the problems our country faces, we are tired of politicians who always talk more and act less; we no longer want to see children selling on the road; we can no longer bear the sight of unemployed graduates; we can no longer stand the tears and wails of the weak and feeble, the despair of generations yet unborn.

All we want now is action! action! Many Ghanaians had higher expectations of this government, but it seems this government is far from alleviating Ghanaians from the miseries they have been plunged into.

The zeal and the vigour that filled the skies after the election of this government are sadly being replaced by despair and hopelessness.

I believe the last thing this government will want is a citizenry without hope.
