    The Electoral Commission (EC) says it has taken steps to address the issues of shortfalls and discrepancies regarding ballot papers sent to the Volta and Bono regions.

    Addressing an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting in Accra yesterday, the Deputy Chairperson of the EC in charge of Corporate Services, Dr Bossman Eric Asare, said the shortfalls and discrepancies in the ballot papers were detected by the commission’s own staff, and that they were not reported to it by any political party.

  • Born too soon! Pre-term awareness must be of concern

    They are called pre-term because they are born sooner than the 40 weeks that they are supposed to be in their mother’s womb. They come into the world very tiny, but only God knows the magnitude of the struggle they enter the world with. I am referring to premature babies.  

    In the last couple of weeks, I have been twice at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), first with my Church Group to present to the Unit an ultrasound fitting to assist with quality care for pre-term babies admitted into intensive care.  

    The second visit was days after the presentation on the fact-finding mission and to talk to some mothers whose babies were on admission to feel their anxieties.

  • President inaugurates Phase 2 of Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange

    President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo yesterday inaugurated the second phase of the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange in Accra in honour of the late patriot.

    Phase one of the project was completed and inaugurates by President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, while phase two, which comprises a flyover on the Ring Road West (Awudome to the Abossey Okai Central Mosque) and the widening of the Ring Road West (from Awudome Junction to Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange) into a two by three dual carriageway has just been completed.

    Fort Prinzenstein, located at Keta in the Volta Region, is one of the historic forts that played a significant role in the transatlantic slave trade. Built by Danish traders in 1784, the fort was used for defensive purposes and to facilitate the slave trade.

    The name "Prinzenstein" is Danish for "Prince's Stone." The fort was named in honour of the Danish Crown Prince.

  • Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala reappointed Director-General of World Trade Organisation

    The World Trade Organisation (WTO) has reappointed Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as its director-general for a second four-year term.

    Okonjo-Iweala, the first woman and the first African to head the WTO, was the only candidate in the race, and had been all but assured a second four-year term.

    The 70-year-old Nigerian was reappointed by consensus among the organisation's 166 members, who sped up the process in what observers suggested was a bid to avoid Trump blocking her candidacy after he returns to the White House on January 20.

    Okonjo-Iweala, who was reappointed Friday for a second term running the World Trade Organization, said she looked forward to working with Donald Trump, while insisting on the importance of rules-based global trading.

    The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed 196 cases of cholera in four regions – Greater Accra, Eastern, Central and Western, with 21 deaths. 

    The confirmations were done from 2,389 suspected cases the GHS recorded across the country.

  • Ghana Election 2024: Will NPP break The 8?

    December 7 is only a week away. Of the choices facing Ghanaians, one is whether to continue our eight-year rotation cycle of the duopoly by voting for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) or breaking the cycle by voting to keep the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in office. 

    The NPP coined the phrase “Break the 8” when the 2024 election season got underway. This is the second time the party stands at this critical juncture of hoping to avoid party turnover in Ghana’s election cycle. The difference is the intentionality of the phrase as part of 2024 was clearly missing in 2008.
