Aged widows enjoy New Year treat

It was a happy moment for about 200 aged widows at the Korle Gonno Mt Zion Methodist Church in the Accra Metropolis when they underwent  free medical screening as part of activities that marked the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

A team of medical personnel from the Tobinco Pharmaceuticals and the G2 Laboratory screened the widows,  who were 70 years and above, for various illnesses such as  malaria, cholera, hypertension and diabetes.  They were also provided with free medication and offered counselling on healthy living.

The aged widows were later feted and given hampers provided by GM Addo and Sons and GN Products.

Corporate social responsibility

Chief Executive Officer of S & S Media Concept, co-organisers of the event, Mr Samuel Okine, said the initiative was the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) towards communities it operated in.

According to Mr Okine, the company had decided to organise the programme annually  and called for support from other corporate bodies.

“In the coming years, we hope to extend this to other vulnerable persons in society, and will, therefore, need the support of corporate institutions,” he said.

He added that there were plans to organise similar programmes during the Easter festivities this year.
