According to them, Mrs Asmah,   who was a founding member and a stalwart in the New Patriotic Party, served as a role model and a source of inspiration to many and so will be sorely missed.

Nana Akufo -Addo

Mrs Asmah, according to Nana Akufo-Addo, played a very important role “during the fight for the reinstatement of multi-party democracy in our country,  as well as in the formation of the NPP”.

She was the first Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs and the first Minister for Fisheries in the history of our country. The achievements she chalked up in both ministries were remarkable. Nana Akufo-Addo eulogised her as an excellent and trustworthy colleague.

According to him, he visited her at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital while she was on admission, and he nursed the  hope that she was on the road to recovery. “However, our Father in Heaven knows best. Hers was a life well lived and my  condolences go to her family, the NPP family and the entire nation of Ghana,” he stated.

“My heartfelt condolence and sympathies go to her immediate family, constituents, NPP party faithful and the Ghanaian people whom she diligently served,” Mr Kyerematen stated.

In his message, he said the people of Ghana and indeed the entire membership of the NPP were indebted to the late Mrs Asmah for her invaluable contribution and dedication to both country and party (NPP).

‘’I had the privilege of working with her as a colleague minister under the Kufuor administration and also as a foundation member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP),’’ Mr Kyerematen stated.

In addition, he said Mrs Asmah was one of the patrons of the EMPRETEC programme, which Mr Kyerematen initiated in the Western Region.

He described her as hard-working and someone committed to achieving excellence in all her undertakings and that her life was an inspiration to all, especially women and children.

“May she find peace in the bosom of our Lord,” he concluded.
