According to them, they would forge a united front as they did a year ago, to make this year’s celebration successful.

Addressing a news conference at Winneba last Saturday, which was attended by elders of the two Asafo companies and the Otuano Royal Stool family, Obaatan Armah-Sekum said this year’s festival, which would be climaxed on May 2, would be celebrated in a peaceful atmosphere as it was done last year.

Planning committee

He said the festival was about the development of the town and not about individuals, adding, “all stakeholders will ensure that all differences are resolved to pave the way for a successful celebration.”

He said a planning committee would be set up to plan and manage the celebration in a manner that would showcase the rich cultural heritage of the people of Winneba, as part of efforts  towards the development of the area.

He appealed to corporate bodies and organisations to come on board and sponsor the festival to make the celebration a success.

Otuano family spokesperson

Mr Krakra Ghunney, an elder of the Otuano Royal Stool family, who spoke on behalf of the head of the family, Opanyin Kyikyibi Gyan, said the family had written to the Central Regional Minister, Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, and the Central Regional House of Chiefs of the family’s decision to not allow Neenyi Ghartey VII to preside over and participate in the celebrations.

The letter, a copy of which is available to the Daily Graphic, signed by the family head and dated March 3, 2015, read in part that there was a destoolment case against the Omanhen which had been pending at the Central Regional House of Chiefs for the past nine years.

It explained that it was the reason why Neenyi Ghartey had not presided over the festival for the past five years.

It stated further that as the head of the royal family, he was very much aware of the sentiments of the people of Effutu and served notice that until the issues about Neenyi Ghartey were resolved, it would be unwise and safe to allow him to preside over this year’s festival.

“I have resolved to preside over the festival this year as I did last year, which was a great success after many years of dismal outcomes” it said.
