The Asunafo North Municipal Health Insurance scheme had, as of December 2014, registered 72,601 clients.

During the same period, the scheme paid an amount of GH¢1,431,490.52 to its service providers.

The Manager of the scheme, Mr Martin Kwabena Amponsah, made this known at a stakeholders’ meeting of the scheme at Goaso last weekend.

He said even though the scheme had not settled all its debts with the service providers, the government had put in place measures to settle the debts as soon as possible.

Mr Amponsah expressed concern about the way some clients attended health facilities more often than necessary.

He, nonetheless, urged beneficiaries of the scheme to be goodwill ambassadors and encourage others who had as yet not registered with the scheme to do so in their own interest.

He said he was grateful to the government, the Asunafo North District Assembly and health service providers for supporting the scheme in its work.

He urged clients of the scheme to always renew their identity cards before the expiry dates.

The scheme manager attributed the success of the scheme in the municipality to the quality of service provided, coupled with the professionalism and friendly nature of its staff members.

Mr Simon Kyeremeh of the Brong Ahafo Regional Directorate of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) stressed the need for health insurance agents to work harder to convince more people to join the scheme and advised clients of the NHIS to resist the temptation of accessing health care when there was no need for them to do so.

He observed that many people had the wrong impression that once they had paid their premium, it was their right to visit a health facility at all cost before the end of the year, whether they were sick or not.

The scheme manager commended the management and staff members of the Asunafo North Municipal Health Insurance Scheme for their hard work.

He said it was pertinent that staff members attended refresher courses to update their skills.
