Father of police brutality victim refutes claim of begging IGP to lift interdiction

The father of Dodzi Aglebe, the man who was tortured by two policemen in a viral video has dismissed rumours that he is no longer interested in the case and is begging the IGP to lift the interdiction on the policemen who abused his son.

Father of the victim, Togbui Daniel Aglebe after a meeting to determine the next line of action told Accra-based Citi news that he has never said he was no longer interested in pursuing the case.

“If someone says we are no longer interested in the case, it is not true. We were notified yesterday that the IGP interdicted the two police officers so if the IGP has spoken, who am I to say that he shouldn’t go ahead with the investigation,” he said.

He also said the family will allow police investigations to continue.

The video which went viral on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, shows a handcuffed victim (now identified as Dodzi Aglebe) being lashed with tyre strips by two men after they douse him with a liquid.

One of the men is dressed in a police uniform and the pair take turns to lash the victim. There is another man wearing a white shirt in the room.

The victim screams for help after the first few strokes as he runs from a seated position to the corner of the room.

The two interdicted police officers were identified as Sergeant Patrick Amoako and Lance Corporal Isaac Marfo of the Railways Police Station at Koforidua in the Eastern Region in a press release issued by the Police Public Affairs Directorate on Wednesday, October 3, 2019.
